TASHKENT

Tashkent is the capital of independent Uzbekistan. It is a big modern city, one of the largest industrial, scientific and cultural centers in Central Asia.

Tashkent is one of the oldest cities in Central Asia. Chach-Shash-Binkent-Tashkent. Each of these names is the city’s history. Tashkent city was founded more than 2000 years ago. The city was situated on the crossroad of the Great Silk Road, which helped to connect economical and cultural relations with other countries. The remained monuments of the past have been reflecting the art and culture of the building of different epochs.
Tashkent is one of ancient cities of Uzbekistan. It witnessed the collapse of Kushan Empire, creation of Eftalits Empire, bloom of Turkic Khanate, Arab invasion, Jenghiz Khan Hordes, and Timur's (Tamerlane) power.

Unfortunately, available information of archeological excavations and ancient books do not give an opportunity yet to restore the city history completely. Tashkent is more than 2000 years old. During its centuries old history the city was called: Binkent, Shosh, and Tashkent. At the crossroads of main caravan trade ways, it was, quite often, an arena of civil wars to take it over. City residents put up resistance to conquerors.

The city was engaged in brisk trade with nomadic tribes of Central Asia and neighboring countries, and also with India and the Eastern Europe.
During Tamerlane's period Tashkent was a starting point for conquerors to the north in White and Golden Hordes. Tashkent monuments are unique. Tashkent city sights in combination with ancient architectural monuments of Samarkand, Bukhara & Khiva give a whole thing in its best way. In Tashkent you could see the Original of Koran.

Within a few years of independence the Uzbek capital has strongly changed.

A large number of fountains decorate squares, streets and parks. Especially the central part of the city is beautified. The buildings, keeping the national identity, look modern and respectable.

Tashkent is the largest city in Central Asia with a population of more than 3 million people. Archaeological excavations indicated the fact, that modern Tashkent was the area of the ancient city, which existed as commercial and cultural center of the East, it was situated in the northern part of theGreat Silk Road.
